Mission statement

In the 21st century, multilingual communication is essentially and increasingly computer- and web-based. These communication processes are transcultural in nature, while at the same time they enable local cultures and language communities to express themselves using web-based language technologies.

Professional and technical communication at a global scale needs multilingual terminologies and multilingual information systems. Translation and localization services require new language technologies and new approaches to language resource management.

The goal of the UNESCO Chair in Multilingual, Transcultural Communication in the Digital Age is to further develop a comprehensive approach to digital multilingual and transcultural communication processes, integrating relevant best practices, diverse perspectives and research traditions, and expanding this approach on a global level.
